MRI reveals torn ACL for Bears WR Cameron Meredith

Bears receiver Cameron Meredith will indeed be lost for the season. A source confirmed that an MRI on Meredith's injured left knee Monday revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament, as was feared after the third-year receiver left Sunday's exhibition game against the Titans on a cart.

Meredith, who led the Bears with 66 catches for 888 yards last season, suffered his injury in the first quarter Sunday when he was hit by Titans safety Johnathan Cyprien after a 16-yard catch. Meredith's left leg bent awkwardly and he appeared to be in agony immediately.

The Bears are still awaiting additional results on the MRI to determine the severity of the damage to Meredith's knee. Either way, the loss of Meredith is a major blow to the Bears receiving corps and a disheartening setback for one of the team's young building blocks.

Fellow receiver Kevin White, who came into the league with Meredith in 2015 and has missed 28 games in his first two seasons, expressed his empathy following Sunday's game.

"You never want to see one of your guys go down," White said. "But it's especially difficult when it's such a good guy on and off the field. Cam works so hard. He loves the game. He's always been a team player. It just sucks. You never want to see that.

"I told him this is going to be a small thing to a giant. He'll bounce back. I told him 'You've got to work hard (in your recovery). Every day at therapy you have to act like it's a game.' He'll get through this. And I told him I'd be there for him with whatever he needs. He can call me, text me. I'll go to his house to hang out with him. Whatever I have to do to give him some encouragement and help him get through this process."
