Mr Robot season 1 finale postponed due to ‘graphic scene similar to Virginia news shootings’

(USA)

USA Network postponed last night’s season finale of hacker drama Mr Robot due to an unfortunate similarity between one of its scenes and the shooting that took place on live TV in Virginia earlier in the day.

“Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time,” USA said in a statement.

It added that decision was made because the finale “contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia.”

The episode will instead air on 2 September in its usual 10pm timeslot.

Mr Robot has proven a surprise hit this summer,  centring on a neurotic IT expert who is drafted by an underground group of hackers to fight corporate corruption.

America is in mourning after yesterday’s horrific attacks, which saw WDBJ-TV’s Alison Parker and Adam Ward gunned down on live TV, with the incident playing out on social media after the gunman started posting videos of the attack on Facebook and Twitter before killing himself.
