If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the NHS staff and care home workers are the true heroes of this pandemic.
Which is why travel club Mr & Mrs Smith wants to give them a night away at a luxury hotel once it is all over.
Over 45 of its hotels across the UK have joined in the initiative, offering stays for just £50 per night - a fraction of the regular cost. But instead of NHS and care home workers paying for the stay, Mr & Mrs Smith have started a crowdfunder to raise £50,000, which could pay for 1,000 overnight stays.
Launched today, the initiative has already reached £8,736 from 82 backers and Mr & Mrs Smith have pledged to fund the first 100 rooms.
Mr & Mrs Smith founders James and Tamara Lohan, says: "Although pretty much every person and business has been affected in some way by this horrific virus, I think we can all agree that healthcare workers are having a very different experience to the rest of us – something that’s been emphatically recognised by the whole country these past few weeks. We’d love to reach our target on Crowdfunder and give them a much-needed break at a Smith hotel – it's definitely time we looked after them for a change!”
Participating hotels include Cliveden in Berkshire, Dormy House in the Cotswolds, The Rose in Kent and Limewood in Hampshire, as well as 41 others.
