‘Mr Moonlight’ killer Patrick Quirke wouldn't hand over family home to mum after dad’s death, RTE Liveline clip reveals

Killer Patrick Quirke once took possession of his mother’s family home and refused to give it back to her.

Eileen Quirke said that when her husband died after 50 years of marriage that her son got possession of her house against her will.

She told Joe Duffy on RTE Radio One in 2005 that she had been told at the time that the family home would be hers until she died but it somehow ended up in Patrick’s name after her late husband passed away.

She was very upset over what her only son had done at the time and said: “Handing over businesses, farms or anything, houses, please, please get your own legal advice.

“The farm was transferred with the agreement that the house would be in my name and the person refused to put the house in my name.

“So I am left, after what I would consider a very happy marriage, when my husband died I was left with nothing apart from the widows allowance."

When asked who got everything by Joe, Ms Quirke responded: “The son."

She added: “It is astonishing Joe that yesterday you had a cheque book that was worth something that today you have a cheque book that is worth nothing.

“I mean you will probably say ‘What a foolish person to sign up to these things.’ And I was in hindsight.

“It was an agreement, a transfer while he was alive. The solicitor came out and said to my husband ‘Do you want legal advice of your own?’ and he said ‘No, we are dealing with our own we will be alright’.”

And Ms Quirke said at the time during the phone in on February 7, 2005, that it was all done under the understanding that she would get the house.
