MPs have credit cards BLOCKED over issues with expenses claims

Hundreds of MPs have had their parliamentary credit cards blocked over issues with expenses claims, figures shows.

Since 2015, 377 MPs, including Scots Secretary David Mundell, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and several SNP MPs, have been sanctioned by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.

The watchdog tried to cover up data showing the MPs, including nine Cabinet ministers, had their cards suspended for wrong, incomplete or late claims.

Nine MPs had their credit cards suspended more than 10 times in three years.

They include leading Tory Damian Collins and constitution minister Chloe Smith, who had their cards blocked 14 times each over the period. The SNP’s Angus MacNeil and Joanna Cherry had their cards blocked nine times.

Mundell’s card was suspended twice, once in 2016 for seven days and once in 2018 for five days.

His spokesman blamed admin delays. He added: “The card has not been misused and there is no suggestion of impropriety.”
