MPs' Easter break to be cancelled, Andrea Leadsom confirms

MPs' Easter recess is to be cancelled so they can “address the exit from the EU”.

The two-week holiday will be axed as Parliament works desperately to work their way out of the Brexit deadlock.

Leader of the Commons Andrea Leadsom informed MPs they would not be getting their break in a letter on Monday.

She said although MPs need to spend time in their constituencies, this would need to be scrapped in order to work through Brexit matters.

She wrote: “I know Members value time in their constituencies, and how hard they work to balance the commitments they have there, with those in Westminster.

“The House rightly needs time to address our exit from the EU, and our constituents will expect Parliament to work flat out to deliver this as smoothly as possible”.

Their break, from April 8 to April 15, will no longer take place, she added.

Exhausted MPs will be working as the Prime Minister struggles to contain the rising tensions with her Cabinet as the clock counts down to the latest EU deadline, on April 12.

Despite seeing her deal again defeated on Friday, the Prime Minister is determined to bring it back to the Commons for a fourth time - possibly as early as Tuesday - in a final roll of the dice to get it over the line.
