MPs criticise Education Secretary's all-male advisory team

Opposition MPs have criticised what they say is a lack of diversity among the Education Secretary's new team of advisers.

Nadhim Zahawi's new team of special advisers at the Department for Education has been revealed to be all-male and all-white, according to a report by Tes.

The make-up of Mr Zahawi's top team was sharply criticised by shadow education secretary Kate Green on Tuesday evening, who compared it to that of school staff across the country.

She referred to the report in a tweet saying: "75% of classroom teachers are women. 15% of teachers identify as ethnic minority.

"Where are these talented, diverse women and men?? Unacceptable."

Labour MP Stella Creasy tweeted: "Women! Know your place. It's not in the DfE that's for sure..."

Mr Zahawi replaced the beleaguered Gavin Williamson as Education Secretary in Prime Minister Boris Johnson's reshuffle last month.

Alex Burghart replaced Gillian Keegan as skills minister and Will Quince took over from Vicky Ford as children's minister as part of the shake-up.
