MPs have called on the government to launch a scheme to employ Afghan interpreters as counter-terrorist advisors.
As of Monday, almost 3,500 Afghan Interpreters and their families had been evacuated to the UK, with more expected to be relocated in the coming weeks.
Ensuring they can get jobs when they arrive could help them start a new life in the UK and offer them dignity, the Liberal Democrats said.
Lib Dem Defence Spokesperson Jamie Stone said: “The scenes of thousands of dangerous terrorists being released in their droves from prisons in Afghanistan sent a chill down the spine.
“Without action, we could be left facing a resurgence in global terrorism and a more unstable world.
“We must ensure that all Afghan interpreters who have been evacuated have the opportunity to build a new life for themselves here in the UK. That is why a scheme to help them access work is vital.”

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has warned the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan could see an “explosion” of terrorist plots and attacks, as groups like al-Qaeda see the withdrawal of western forces as an “opportunity.
Mr Stone said offering interpreters jobs in counter-terror roles could be a “key defensive weapon” in protecting the UK from terror attacks.
He said: “We are also calling on the government to offer Afghan interpreters the chance to enlist in counter-terrorism roles. This will not only strengthen our fight against terrorism, but also give them, and their families, a secure income and sense of dignity.
“Many Afghans heroically put their lives on the line to protect the lives of our brave servicemen and women on the ground through their work as interpreters. These people are not only brave, but they are also highly skilled and could play a key role in our efforts to prevent terrorist cells from taking hold in Afghanistan once again.
“Their regional and political knowledge, as well as vital language skills, could be a key defensive weapon against terrorist threats to Britain.”
