Electric Veng FC earned a thrilling 3-2 against FC Bethlehem in the fifth round of the ninth edition of Mizoram Premier League in Aizawl on Wednesday.
Electric Veng took the lead as early as in the sixth minute when Vanlalremsanga found the back of the net against the debutants. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, they struck again and this time it was Vanlalremkima who got his name on the score sheet. Even after the change of ends in the encounter, Electric Veng continued their dominance and made it 3-0 when Malsawmhlua found the target in the 65th minute.
With the score reading 3-0 in favour of Electric Veng, it seemed the match was over. However, Bethlehem were in no mood to go down without a fight. They scored their first goal of the match in the 68th minute through Lalnunzira and then made it 2-0 in the 84th with Lawmsangzuala finding the back of the net.
Despite scoring the two crucial goals, they were unable to find the more important equaliser and Electric Veng held on for their first win of the tournament. As for Bethlehem, they would be quite disappointed with the result but should be proud of the way they fought till the very end.
Meanwhile, in the other match of the day, Chhinga Veng FC earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Chawnpui FC, courtesy an own goal. In the 29th minute of the match, Chawnpui's Ephraim Vanlalduhsaka, in his bid to counter a Chhinga attack, put the ball into his own net that gave the match in his opponent's favour.
