MPCA 'disappointed' with ODI World Cup snub

MUMBAI: The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has expressed its "disappointment" with the BCCI after Indore, a prominent cricket venue, was excluded from the list of venues for the World Cup.

On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the ODI World Cup will be played across 10 venues - Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

"At the MPCA, we're all disappointed. The World Cup is a prestigious tournament, and we were looking forward to hosting the matches. The spectator turnout in the international matches staged at Indore in the past has been one of the best in India. At the same time, it's the BCCI's call and we're with the BCCI for this marquee event," MPCA CEO Rohit Pandit told TOI on Wednesday.

Was the capacity of the Holkar Stadium (27,500) a factor? "Our stadium has a capacity of 27,500. If you are talking about the logistics - teams travel by chartered flights these days. We've good five-star hotels. If there's a solid reason why we aren't getting games, we can look to work on that," he said.
