MP walks off ITV Good Morning Britain after Piers Morgan teases him about losing job

MP Rory Stewart walked off breakfast show Good Morning Britain after host Piers Morgan teased him about losing his job.

The 46-year-old former Conservative politician was a guest on the ITV programme to talk about a variety of current issues including the proroguing parliament, Brexit and Labour's proposals to abolish private schools.

Towards the end of the interview, Piers brought up the MP for Penrith's expulsion from the Tory party while he was accepting a GQ award for Politician of the Year.

Stewart was one of 21 MPs who voted in support of an emergency motion to allow the Houses of Commons to proceed with the EU withdrawal bill in early September.

In voting in support, the MPs went against the party whip meaning the party will block their selection as Conservative candidates should they wish to run again, forcing them to stand as independents.

Stewart said he received the news via text message while he was attending the awards ceremony.

Piers said: "After winning my two GQ awards I lost both jobs I had won it for, so welcome to the GQ curse.

"You didn't even make it to the podium before you lost your job."

Following that, the MP stood up and walked off set and with the camera panning out to show him leaving, co-host Susanna Reid said: "Oh, he's off."

*Good Morning Britain is on ITV1 every morning from 6am
