Labour MP and former Corrie actress Tracy Brabin has sparked a shopping frenzy with the £35 on-shoulder dress she wore to parliament that led to her being .
Shadow Culture Secretary Brabin, 58, wore a black one-shouldered midi dress to the House of Commons yesterday and the outfit ended up overshadowing her remarks.
She was bombarded with abuse over the frock, with trolls branding her a "tart", and she hit back with a curt tweet declaring she is entitled to wear whatever she likes.
The pleated shoulder pencil dress which sparked the furore is now on the verge of selling out on fashion retailer ASOS.com.
The site has placed a warning on the item that stock is "selling fast" since the debacle in the House of Commons.
Former Coronation Street star Brabin, who replaced murdered MP Jo Cox, hit out at the trolls in a scathing message defending her outfit choice.
She wrote: "Hello. Sorry I don’t have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I’m not...
"A slag, Hungover, A tart, About to breastfeed, A slapper, Drunk, Just been banged over a wheelie bin.
"Who knew people could get so emotional over a shoulder..."
She added in a statement to the BBC that the social media backlash is just "another example of the every day sexism women face".
Brabin added: "They were playing top trumps on how rude they could be.
"They are idiots and they are rude but I am not going to lose much sleep over them."
Soap actor Gary Webster, who has appeared in Eastenders and Hollyoaks, defended Brabin.
He tweeted: "Brilliant retort Tracy. Omg if only they were as vocal about the behaviour, misogyny, racism, falling asleep and warped policies of the ruling govt as they are about revealing one shoulder."
She had been addressing the house to criticise the government's plans to order journalists to leave before a briefing on Boris Johnson's latest Brexit plans.
