MP Matt Hancock's awkward GMB exit leaves Susanna Reid cringing

Conservative MP Matt Hancock's awkward end to his Good Morning Britain interview today left hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard cringing today.

The Health Secretary, 41, appeared on the ITV daytime show to speak about the Tory manifesto and Nicky Morgan's baffling comments about their 50,000 more nurses pledge.

In what many viewers dubbed a "car crash interview", Piers and co-host Susanna Reid accused her of being disingenuous with her responses.

Following Hancock's interview today, in which he enthusiastically said that he "loved the NHS", Ben said: "We're going to have to leave it there, Matt. Unfortunately we've doubled our time with you.

"The Health Secretary, we're going to have to leave it there. Matt Hancock, thank you for coming to join us this morning, finally. It's good to speak to you."

However the MP didn't react and stared at the camera, failing to say goodbye as an awkward silence filled the air.

Susanna raised her eyebrows and was forced to intervene, saying: "And... er, bye bye."

Hancock glanced to the side to someone out of shot and exclaimed: "OK!"

"OK!" Susanna mimicked as Ben laughed before putting a hand over his face.

"Did we double our time because we just had the existing time or did we have more time?" Susanna asked jokingly, make a dig at the MP's calculations.

The hosts joked about the interview afterwards (ITV)

Ben quipped: "No, we added more time, we've retained some time and then added more time."

They then asked Martin Lewis what he thought, who joked: "I think it's ambiguously ambiguous what he was saying and I think we're absolutely clear of whether or not we were understanding whether we did or did not understand what he was going to say, coming up shortly."
