MP hosts virtual assemblies on internet safety

Martyn Day MP took part virtually in ‘Be Internet Legends’ livestream assemblies at St Joseph's RC Primary School and Greenrigg Primary School to teach children about staying safe online.

The assemblies were part of an interactive education programme from Google and Parentzone offering primary school teachers’ resources to encourage children to be safer and more confident online explorers.

Mr Day said before lockdown he would regularly visit schools in his constituency so he was delighted to take part virtually.

The Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP said: “The internet is a great resource for children to learn and play, however safety for children online is a huge issue, and they have to be encouraged to act wisely and responsibly.

“While parents and teachers do their best to protect and supervise children online, they can’t always see everything children do and it’s important to make sure our young ones have the tools they need to help them navigate safely.

“The ‘Be Internet Legends’ campaign is a fun way to help younger children use the web wisely; accurately combining positive encouragement for children to be confident when using the internet, with the tools and precautions necessary for them to avoid dangerous situations and stay safe.”
