Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has hit out at Rangers fans who gathered in Larkhall town centre to celebrate at the weekend.
The town’s MP said that large gatherings “will undoubtedly cause an increase in cases”.
A few hundred fans can be seen in video footage belting out the Queen classic `We Are The Champions’ as they let off flares and waived flags to celebrate their first leagues title in ten years.
Steven Gerrard’s side were confirmed as champions at the weekend when Celtic failed to beat Dundee United.
Fans were seen heading into the town despite warnings from police amid COVID regulations.
There was a strong police presence in Larkhall town centre as groups of fans lined pavements.
Police Scotland confirmed no arrests were made in Larkhall.
Lanark and Hamilton East MP Ms Crawley, whose constituency covers Larkhall, felt the gathering in the town was “disappointing”.
She said: “Whilst it is obvious that people want to mark a great achievement, we are at a crucial stage in our fight against the virus and the large gatherings over the weekend will undoubtedly cause an increase in cases.
“Everyone has made huge sacrifices over the past year and these actions risk our progress and our exit from lockdown, which is hugely disappointing.
“I would encourage anyone that attended a mass gathering to be extremely cautious, stay at home and book a test if you develop symptoms.
“I would also encourage everyone to avoid attending future gatherings until COVID restrictions allow.”
