MP accuses Boris Johnson of 'killing Nottingham's businesses' in fiery address

Boris Johnson was grilled by a Nottingham MP over 'killing Nottingham's businesses' during Prime Minister's Questions.

Labour’s Lilian Greenwood  MP for Nottingham South - urged the Prime Minister to provide more financial support to areas facing greater restrictions.

On Tuesday, October 21, he said Nottinghamshire was part of talks about moving to the highest alert level, Tier 3.

Ms Greenwood said: “His Government lost control of the virus making extra restrictions inevitable, but with no certainty, no communication and no new financial support he is killing Nottingham businesses."

Ms Greenwood added: “Will he stop punishing successful Nottingham businesses for his failure and give them the help that they desperately need?”

Mr Johnson replied: “I, of course, sympathise deeply with businesses that face difficulties because of the pandemic, though I would remind (Ms Greenwood) that in her constituency the infection rate is now running at 815 per 100,000 and we must get that down – and I thank the people of Nottingham for what they are doing to get it down.

“We will of course continue to provide the full panoply of support that we’ve offered, and more, throughout this crisis.”
