Moxy Hotel to open in April as date pushed back for fifth time

A boutique Bristol city centre hotel is set to open in April, more than two years after it originally planned.

Moxy, part of the Marriott chain, had hoped to welcome customers in early 2020, but developers say Covid and poor weather have contributed to construction setbacks.

The £16million hotel then confirmed it would open in Autumn 2020, which was then pushed back to spring 2021, autumn 2021 and March 2022. Now Moxy has confirmed it will open in April 2022, but rooms still aren't available to book.

The setback comes as Moxy has applied to Bristol City Council to approve details in relation to its travel plan, cycle store and heat network.

The hotel, which will house 214 rooms over seven storeys, is taking shape on Newfoundland Circus just off the M32. It has a food outlet, cocktail bar, games zone, 'super fast WiFi' and even welcomes dogs.

It pitches itself as a “relaxed and stylish” boutique hotel.

Its website says: "Want to know what makes Moxy Bristol a boutique hotel at its heart? The bright and open lobby where guests check-in at the bar (first drink on us!), or the social spaces with cool, comfy seating, and large work-desk with charging points galore."

It continues: "Whether you’re a couple in town for some R&R, a family (yes, including the dog) headed for a staycation near to Bath, or a business or leisure traveller who wants a relaxed, stylish hotel in Bristol city centre, you’re sure to feel at home.

"With a 24/7 food and beverage outlet offering a wide selection of grab 'n' go snacks and drinks, we’ve got a coffee-shop-by-day-cocktail-bar-by night vibe, a games zone, and super-fast WiFi throughout to keep everyone connected."

Moxy has been approached for further comment.
