Moxie’s favourite tracks

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Taraval: Gonna Rain

Has the ideal balance: a statement track but also works great to set the tone for the rest of my set.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
MD X-Spress: God Made Me Phunky

There is never a time this track doesn’t work. An absolute classic.

The track that currently gets the most rewinds
Benton: The Calling

I’m very selective when it comes to a rewind as the moment has to be right, but with a tune like this it’s hard not to pull it back. The intro vocal builds up the perfect tension for the crowd, and when those drums roll out you can’t not go completely bananas.

The track I wish i’d signed to my label
Floating Points: Nuits Sonores

Twelve minutes of pure gold. He always conjures the balance of dark lo-fi bass with undeniable swing and groove.

The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Gwen McCrae: All This Love That I’m Giving

I could just imagine playing this and my family starting a dance-off. No doubt I would have to leave the decks and get involved.

The best track by my favourite new artist
Mella Dee: Heaven

There’s a lot of jungle nostalgia tracks floating about at the moment and it’s not an easy task to take on, but Mella Dee seems to just get it in the bag with this one. Such a tune!

The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
K Frimpong And His Cubano Fiestas: Kyenkyen Bi Adi M’awu

Any opportunity to play this out makes me very happy indeed.

The track I wish I’d never played
Chase & Status: Blind Faith

I was DJing at my cousin’s 16th birthday party and was forced to play pretty much their entire album. Never. Again.

The ideal festival track
Crystal Waters: Gypsy Woman

I opened up a set with this at Outlook festival a few years back and people still come up to me to talk about it.

The track I’d play at my funeral
Sly & The Family Stone: Everyday People

There are two ways a funeral can go: really bleak and everyone cries, or it can turn into a celebration and everyone parties. With a tune like this, how could anyone not want to have a dance?

Moxie plays Bugged Out Weekender, Butlins, Bognor Regis, Fri 16 to 18 Jan
