Moving van dumps rubbish into middle of busy road

Rubbish was dumped from a moving Ford Transit van onto a busy road.

An eye witness spotted the van driving on Warrington Road in Rainhill at around 1pm on Monday (April 11). Those in the van then dropped rubbish across the road at the junction with View Road, before shutting its doors and driving off.

The incident left the contents of a full bin bag, including food packaging, strewn across the road. The eye witness said cars and an ambulance had to swerve around the discarded waste..

However, the refuse was cleared up by a man who went out into the road in the rain. He threw the rubbish into a nearby bin.

Details about the incident were posted on local Facebook page Rainhill Rocks, who wanted to highlight the kind actions of the man, who took time in the rain to clear up the mess. He was praised by commenters on the page.

David Beattie said: "We saw the aftermath and couldn’t believe it! That guy was an absolute superstar- it was absolutely pouring with rain and he started picking it up. Went to the Shell garage and by the time we returned he’d picked everything up.

"Well Done to that bloke - what a wonderful thing to do! A fantastic member of the community."

Moira McNally added: "Bless him". Gillian Roberts said: "There are horrors about and lovely people to account for them. Hope the van’s number was taken".

St Helens Council was contacted for comment.
