'Moving quick' - former Nottingham Forest boss reveals his future plans

Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka is keen to get back into management – but only if the right "project" is available.

Karanka has been out of work since leaving Forest in January of last year, leaving the club just a place outside the top six.

That ended his 12-month stint at the City Ground, with Martin O’Neill coming in to replace him, before he too was dismissed in the summer and replaced by Sabri Lamouchi.

Karanka was asked by Sky Sports on his plans for the future, with the former Middlesbrough boss admitting there have been opportunities come his way.

“It’s the same as what I said when I left Middlesbrough, it has to be the right project,” said Karanka.

“Football is moving quick, but I want to be in the right place, the place that trust you, the place you can implement and create something and the place we can enjoy it.

“I’ve had times where my agent will come and say ‘Look, be ready, because maybe something is going to happen.’

“Suddenly that team will start to win games and everything disappears.

“Sometimes it’s difficult.

“What I am doing is just watching a lot of football, visiting other managers to have chats with them, to organise meetings and things with my staff to improve and to be ready.”

Karanka added: “It’s the only job when you’re not working you have 24 hours, seven days a week free – nothing to do, then suddenly when you start to work it’s the opposite, 24 hours, seven days a week working.

“It’s time to enjoy with the family and to keep learning.”
