'Moving all the time' - Ian Evatt's Bolton Wanderers transfer update after Jack Iredale capture

By John McDougall

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt says matters are moving 'all the time' behind the scenes as the Whites seek to make further acquisitions in the summer transfer window.

Wanderers finished ninth in League One after the regular season concluded at the end of April. The club is seeking to mount a challenge for promotion in earnest next season.

They have got their recruitment for the upcoming campaign off to a flying start with the acquisition of Jack Iredale. The defender has joined Wanderers on a three-year deal on a free transfer after turning down a fresh contract at Cambridge United.

More incomings are planned at Wanderers, with the intention to have the squad fundamentally in place in time for pre-season and a training camp in Portugal in mid-June. No games are planned for the trip and the focus will be upon building up fitness ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Evatt is busy right now along with the club's technical performance director Chris Markham to bring in more incomings in the weeks to come. Matters are moving quickly, as they often do in transfer windows, but the focus is firmly upon making the best decisions possible for Wanderers.

Speaking to the club's YouTube channel, Evatt said: "We're really busy. We're always looking at recruitment, myself and Chris do a lot of work and the lads behind Chris, so we're always looking.

"Things change hourly, never mind daily in transfer windows. Things are moving all the time but we're doing the best we can to make the best decisions for this football club."

Iredale arrives to add to the defensive department at Wanderers. He can operate as a left-back and also in central defence, so is set to act as competition in both areas of the pitch and challenge the likes of Declan John and George Johnston in particular.

Evatt explained the qualities that he feels Iredale will add at Wanderers and is pleased to get the signing over the line, which has happened so early in the summer before the play-offs have even concluded. The Bolton boss feels the defender fits how Wanderers play and ticked a lot of boxes when it came to bringing him into the building.

He said: "Jack's a player that we've been aware of. We've seen a lot of the last couple of years. He had a fantastic season. He fits how we want to play.

"His strengths are he's good with the ball, a progressive passer, mobile, quick, can play multiple positions. He ticked a lot of boxes so we're delighted to have him in and looking forward to working with him."
