A HOST of cars that could easily grace classic films or TV dramas are coming up for sale in an online auction.
First up is a 1937 Fiat 500 Topolino “Little Mouse” – just like the one featured in the 1953 film Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. This well-maintained model is expected to fetch up to £7000 at the H&H Classics auction next Wednesday.
The specialist firm’s John Markey said: “The sight of a 6ft-plus Peck endeavouring to get in the back of a similar model was a great sequence in the charming film.”
A barn-find 1954 Sunbeam Alpine MkI – which has been driven as a historic rally car – should make a great restoration project for someone expected to pay up to £20,000 for it.
One just like this Sunbeam Alpine found fame at the hands of works drivers Stirling Moss and Sheila Van Damm and also starred in the 1955 film To Catch A Thief, featuring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.
A 1909 Renault Type AZ 12/16HP Laundaulette with coachwork by Lucas of London, up for grabs at about £50,000, wouldn’t look out of place on the set of TV series Downton Abbey.
Those with a bigger budget might also be tempted by a striking yellow 1936 Cord 810 Westchester Sedan, extensively restored and with a V8 engine under the bonnet. It’s likely to sell for as much as £60,000 and is such an icon of American motoring that one even resides in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
And for motorbike enthusiasts, a clutch of Triumphs are on offer. There’s a £16,000 1959 T120R Bonneville, a 1952 6T Thunderbird with a tag of about £11,000 and a similarly priced 1975 T160 Trident. Go to www.handh.co.uk to find out more.
