Movenpick Hotels and Resorts has strengthened its Thai market portfolio with the takeover of management of the former Nai Lert Park Hotel Bangkok.

Andrew Langdon, chief development officer for Movenpick, said the group has expanded its portfolio to nine properties in Thailand after signing an agreement to rebrand and manage the Nai Lert Park Hotel in Bangkok.

"We have entered into a long-term relationship with the hotel owner (Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Plc, or BDMS) in line with typical market practice for hotel management agreements," Mr Langdon said.

Movenpick plans to re-open the hotel as Movenpick BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok in early 2019 after a comprehensive refurbishment. It will be the firm's third property in the capital, joining Movenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok and Movenpick Residences Ekkamai Bangkok.

The 294-room property aims to offer guests a wide range of business and leisure facilities.

Movenpick has lofty expectations because of the prime location, unique city resort feel, a refurbished product and expectations of high occupancy in line with similarly located five-star hotels in Bangkok. Such hotels are witnessing occupancy rates this year surpassing 80% and average daily rates in excess of 5,000 baht per night.

"Nai Lert Park Hotel has been a Bangkok landmark for more than three decades," Mr Langdon said. "We plan to introduce a health-conscious generation of guests to our wellness resort, providing world-class wellness facilities in association with the adjoining BDMS Wellness Clinic."

BDMS was founded in 1969 and is ranked in the top five private hospital groups globally in terms of revenue, with a wide regional network of 45 hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International.

Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, chief operating officer of BDMS, said the group will penetrate the wellness segment with specialised in-house programmes designed for prevention and achieving a healthy lifestyle.

"We see Movenpick as a world-class partner who brings five-star hospitality and service to our vision of delivering customised health intervention and lifestyle programmes in a resort environment," Dr Poramaporn said.
