Moved by plight of Kashi Vishwanath Dham staff, PM Narendra Modi sends them jute slippers

VARANASI: Within days of noticing priests, security staff and other workers engaged at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham moving about barefoot inside the temple premises in biting cold on December 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a gift packet containing 100 pairs of jute footwear for them.

Not only this, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is beginning the sale of khadi handmade paper ‘use & throw’ slippers to ease their inconvenience.

Commissioner of police A Satish Ganesh and divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal distributed the jute footwear gifted by the PM among the security staff, priests and sanitary workers on Sunday as well as Monday.

The officials said that “the jute footwear is meant for the people working at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham so that they don’t have to stay barefoot in the chilling cold”.
