Move over Manchester bees - a giant frog trail is coming to Stockport

We've had last summer's bee trail and Salford's Snowmen - now the frogs are leaping into town.

The Giant Leap Frog Art Trail will see 19 brightly-painted frog sculptures displayed around Stockport .

We don't have long to wait as the trail launches on Saturday June 29, but don't worry as you'll have until September to join in the fun.

The colourful frogs, each with an individual design, will be on their own lily pads and placed at various locations including St Peter's Square and Market Place.

Organisers are keeping the full designs under wraps until the official launch, but have released a number of photos giving us a glimpse of the frogs.

The 19 characters include 'dapper digital dude' KermIT, Mrs Mersey - the Hoppy Shopper, This Little Froggy Went to Market and more.

People of all ages are being invited to take part in the project, explore the town and seek out all the frogs, just like they did with last summer's Bee in the City trail, where 101 sculptures were spread across Manchester city centre and in surrounding suburbs.

Thousands of maps are available, including those included in the Totally Stockport magazine, and if you can't get your hands on one they can be downloaded here .

The trail, organised by Stockport’s Business Improvement District branded as Totally Stockport, aims to offer visitors 'a fun, unique and engaging brand new art trail... something that Stockport has never seen before'.

And it celebrates the £1bn programme of investment and development that is regenerating the town.

Each frog has been sponsored by a local business and individually designed and painted to showcase the businesses and the people who are Totally Stockport.

Paul Taylor, Totally Stockport’s BID manager, said: “This is a great way to entertain and attract new visitors; to showcase Stockport and its vibrant business community and show how the town centre is changing.

“The project is designed to increase town centre footfall, to promote Stockport and the businesses located here as well as to support local groups, including the youth community who are after all tomorrow’s giant leapers.”

Each frog is unique and has been designed by local artists and community groups.

The trail will run from June 29 until September 28 and has its own dedicated website here .

Businesses who sponsored a giant frog include Amshire IT Solutions, BASF, C&C Insurance Brokers, CDL, Concentrix, Girlguiding Stockport, Holiday Inn Express, Light Cinema, Marketing Stockport, Merseyway Shopping Centre, Nexperia, Orbit Developments, Robinsons Brewery, Spring & Co, Stagecoach, Stockport Council and Totally Stockport.

After the trail closes, the frogs will be auctioned with surplus funds awarded to charity to create a Giant Leap legacy fund.
