Moussa Sissoko has spoken of how grateful he is to the Tottenham fans after Spurs' 2-1 win against Southampton yesterday (Saturday).
The Lilywhites ground out a hard-fought victory against the Saints, despite being reduced to ten men just after the half hour mark when Serge Aurier was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
That prompted a change in position for Sissoko, who was asked to move from his role in midfield to play at right-back.
But the Frenchman impressed in an unorthodox position, putting in a good shift as Spurs dug deep in the second half to keep Southampton at bay and claim all three points.
His efforts were appreciated by the home faithful, with Tottenham fans singing his name during the game in the week that the former Newcastle midfielder signed a new contract to extend his stay in north London until 2023.
And Sissoko had a message for the fans after the game, adding that it was a great way to celebrate his new contract.
“Of course, it is always a good feeling when the fans are singing your name," Sissoko said.
"That means they like you and appreciate what you are doing on the pitch. I was very happy with that and thanks to them for singing my name."
"It was a perfect way [to mark my new contract], and I am very happy. Hopefully I can play well for this club and do what I can do.”
Meanwhile, Sissoko also spoke of the importance of getting the three points against Southampton, even if it was not the most convincing of victories.
“It was a big win for us," he said.
“The last few weeks weren’t great for us, so we wanted to win. It wasn’t easy against a good team like Southampton, especially with a red card it was tough.
“But we showed as a team that we can compete and be together and we get the result we wanted, and that is good for the confidence."
