Moussa Sissoko finally gets backing from Tottenham fans after impressive display against Chelsea

Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko is delighted to have finally won the backing of the supporters after a tough start to his career in north London.

The France international arrived from Newcastle United on deadline day for £30 million in August 2016 but has often struggled to make an impression.

However, injuries to Vincent Wanyama and Harry Winks forced Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino into deploying Sissoko as a central midfielder and the move has resulted in some of his best performances in a Tottenham shirt.

Sissoko admits it was difficult being out of the team but is happy that his hard work on the training ground is now paying dividends.

"Sometimes it wasn't easy but I never gave up," Sissoko told reporters.

"I trained hard and I always said when you train hard one day you will have the chance. It was successful.

The 29-year-old was lauded by the home support after a superb display in the 3-1 victory over Chelsea and he was understandably delighted to hear his name echo around Wembley.

"It was a great feeling when the fans sing your name," he added.

"Football is up and down. Sometimes bad moments and sometimes good. Maybe I'm in a good time.

"In my mind, I am ready for anything people say. I had the support of team-mates and staff - this was important. Right now I'm very happy."
