Moussa Dembele transfer statement issued by Lyon amid Manchester United speculation

Lyon have released a club statement reaffirming they will not sell Moussa Dembele in January.

The French striker, formerly of Fulham and Celtic, has been linked with Manchester United over the last six months, as well as London clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old has scored ten goals in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season, which has attracted interest from clubs in England.

However, they are determined not to lose their star striker in January and a statement issued on Thursday evening read: “Olympique Lyonnais has taken note of certain information relayed by the media suggesting that Moussa Dembele could interest other clubs during this transfer window.

“OL would like to reaffirm its wish, as in the summer of 2019, to keep Moussa Dembele.

“The club has full confidence in Moussa and counts in particular on him to build a successful team for the seasons to come.”

The MEN understands United monitored Dembele's situation in the summer following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

However, while United are exploring the possibility of bolstering their forward line after Erling Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund, there is little suggestion they are interested in moving for Dembele this month.
