Moussa Dembele transfer race heats up as Man United legend praises Chelsea target

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Elite goalkeeping candidates arise

After Frank Lampard dropped Kepa Arrizabalaga earlier this season following another high-profile mistake, Chelsea have been linked with a move to address the goalkeeper position in the summer.

And there are two elite names that the club has been linked to this week, Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona and Gianluigi Donnarumma of AC Milan.

As former Barcelona midfielder Rivaldo explained, ter Stegen and Barcelona are currently negotiating over a new contract.

"Barcelona are negotiating a contract renewal with the goalkeeper Ter Stegen, and I agree that he deserves an improved salary for all he has been doing for the club in the last few years," Rivaldo told Betfair.

"Of course, much will depend on the player's demands as I don't believe either that he should earn a similar salary to [Luis] Suárez or [Lionel] Messi, but he should become one of the better-paid members of the squad."

Donnarumma, meanwhile, is set to enter the final year of his contract and Milan could be forced to sell. Per Italian daily Tuttosport , Chelsea may make an offer for AC Milan’s Donnarumma this summer.

As the Blues search for their goalkeeping solution, it will be important to keep a close eye on the contract situations of two of the elite goalkeepers in world football.

Moussa Dembele race heats up

Back in January, The Transfer Window podcast reported that Chelsea had agreed personal terms with Lyon centre-forward, Moussa Dembele. A deal was not possible because Lyon were unwilling to sell in the middle of the season and a fee could not be agreed.

However, the interest has remained and the Blues could return with an improved offer in the summer.

Given that Dembele has scored 22 goals this season, there is good reason to believe that he could be the solution to Chelsea’s striking problems.

But Chelsea are not the only interested team. According to L10 Sport , Arsenal have now entered the race.

This comes after Manchester United and Spurs have both been named as potential suitors, with Lyon likely to field a bidding war in the summer.

If Chelsea want Dembele, then, it looks as though are going to have to fight for him.

Timo Werner 'unbelievable' signing

Timo Werner has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this season. Liverpool have been most prominently named as a potential suitor as Jurgen Klopp searches for a goalscoring back-up across the front line

But Chelsea have now been urged to join the race.

During an Instagram Q&A session with his followers, Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand extolled Werner’s qualities, before saying he would be a terrific signing for Liverpool or Chelsea.

"What he’s been doing for his club, he’s been playing particularly well," Ferdinand said. "He is their goal threat and so, if I’m Liverpool, I 100 per cent take him because they haven’t got that back-up for the front-three at the moment.

"But there’s other clubs… Chelsea I think are interested in him. He would be massive for Chelsea, an unbelievable signing for Chelsea,’ the pundit later added.

As Chelsea look for an elite centre-forward, they could do much worse than a striker with 21 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga.
