Moussa Dembele transfer latest as desperate Chelsea refuse to take no for an answer

Chelsea have made a verbal offer for Moussa Dembele rejected but will go back in with a fresh offer for the former Celtic star.

The Lyon frontman is a wanted man in this window with Frank Lampard willing to splash a big part of his transfer budget on him and he's willing to wait until the final moments of the transfer window. .

The Chelsea boss is a huge admirer of the Frenchman and wants him to battle with Tammy Abraham for the main striking spot at Stamford Bridge.

But tigerish Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas insists he won't be selling Dembele this month but Chelsea are refusing to back down.

Aulas has issued various statements to say his side aren't willing to let Dembele leave the club for any price and Chelsea were told this when they made their initial bid.

According to GetFrenchFootballNews, Lyon are expecting Chelsea to return before the end of the window with further bids until they get the answer they want.

The Premier League giants are becoming increasingly desperate to add to their squad as they look to cement a top-four place in Lampard's first season in charge.

The transfer ban in the summer meant Chelsea were unable to strengthen and have relied on young players such as Abraham and Mason Mount.

Back-up strikers Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud have failed to make an impact and both players are expected to leave the club before the end of January.

Celtic will be waiting for further news on Dembele's future with the Premiership champions holding a sell-on clause.

The Parkhead club are due 10 per cent of any transfer fee, having sold Dembele to Lyon for £20m.
