Moussa Dembele transfer fee crash as Celtic’s windfall takes potentially brutal hit

Celtic could be dealt a transfer blow with Moussa Dembele set to leave Lyon for a cut-price fee over the next year.

The French striker has often been linked with big money moves to England, with Manchester United and Arsenal often watching him closely during his time with Lyon.

The former Celtic star moved to France for around £20million with the Hoops also having a sell-on clause that will see them earn some more cash.

And Dembele's transfer fee was touted to be as much as £60m in the summer if anyone was willing to take him from Lyon.

That valuation has taken a heavy hit since the transfer window closed in October with Lyon unable to sell any of their top stars as Covid wreaked havoc on club finances.

Many clubs were deciding against splashing big cash and there were no offers good enough for Lyon to consider selling Dembele, Houssem Aouar or Memphis Depay.

But they do need money and are now reportedly willing to sell Dembele for just £30m and that will cut Celtic's sell-on significantly.

The Sun say United are still keeping a close eye on him and could make a bid in January, but they face competition from West Ham.

If either club sign Dembele for £30m, the Hoops would get just £1m in sell-ons rather than the £4m they hoped as the 10 per cent is contingent on the sale amount being higher than the £20m initially paid out by Lyon to secure his signature.
