Moussa Dembele 'could now go to Manchester United in January' as Celtic set to receive huge payday

Lyon are reportedly opening up to the possibility of selling Moussa Dembélé, with Manchester United said to be interested in a January deal.

The striker moved to the Ligue 1 giants for a £19.7m fee in the summer of 2018 and has scored 26 goals in 56 games since leaving Celtic.

The Hoops have a 10 per cent sell-on clause and could be set for a January windfall, with reports in France stating that Lyon are opening up to a transfer.

According to Soccerlink president Jean-Michel Aulas is willing to negotiate as long as the fee ensures that there's enough money to get a quality replacement.

The website reports that Manchester United are in pole position and are considering a January deal. Record Sport also understands Dembele would be open to a move to the Old Trafford giants.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad is lacking a real centre-forward after Romelu Lukaku's summer move to Inter and they're keen to bring in Dembélé for the second half of the season.

Lyon's preferred replacement would be Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who is keen to move in January to retain his place in the French national team.

His contract expires in the summer of 2020 so he wouldn't command a huge fee and OL would be able to reinvest any Dembélé fee on his wages.

Aulas is known for his hardball tactics so the former Celtic man wouldn't come cheap.

Last summer Tottenham Hotspur paid €60m for Tanguy Ndombele, while Alexandre Lacazette, Ferland Mendy and Corentin Tolisso have all gone for over €40m in recent years.

That stance could only benefit Celtic though, who stand to receive 10 per cent of any fee.
