Moussa Dembele sees Tottenham transfer bid fail as Celtic hero faces Lyon exit logjam

Tottenham reportedly had a bid knocked back for former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, who now faces a transfer logjam at Lyon.

The 24-year-old has impressed since joining the Ligue 1 giants in the summer of 2018, scoring 44 goals in 95 appearances.

As part of the deal Celtic retain a sell-on fee and Get French Football News reports a transfer could have happened last week.

Spurs made an official offer in the final weekend of September for a loan with an option to buy in 2021.

That was blocked by Lyon boss Rudi Garcia though and Tottenham moved on to sign Carlos Vinicius from Benfica.

Dembele is said to be frustrated at that outcome and he could be left stuck in place while Celtic wait on their sell-on 10 per cent sell-on windfall.

Hardline OL president Jean-Michel Aulas set Friday as the deadline for any outgoings, with Arsenal failing to get a deal done for Houssem Aouar.

With interest from Juventus and Barcelona though the midfielder will surely go next summer, and the Ligue 1 side will look to hold on to their other stars.

Memphis Depay is out of contract next summer, and could even leave for Barça before Monday's transfer deadline.

Sporting director Juninho confirmed: "We have already explained that Memphis is his last year of contract.

"He’s already agreed with Barça, we don’t hide that at all.

"Maybe he’ll go to Barcelona but nothing is certain.

"Until the window closes he’s the player most likely to leave. If he stays then I hope he’ll help us to get back to winning matches."

With those two likely to leave, Aulas can be expected to pull out all the stops to keep Dembele in France.
