Moussa Dembele's Celtic sell-on put on hold as Lyon boss reveals true transfer plans

Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele will not be leaving Lyon in the January window as was once claimed.

And as a result any potential sell-on cash won't be heading to Glasgow's east end for the foreseeable future.

The striker has mostly been used off the bench with just two starts to his name since the beginning of October.

He netted his first goal of the season in his 12th appearance against Stade de Reims but is yet to add to that strike and speculation that Dembele could be jettisoned by manager Rudi Garcia began to gather pace.

Player sales are expected at some of France's top clubs after the Ligue 1 TV deal with Mediapro, worth €2.75bn, collapsed over the last few weeks.

But Dembele won't be one of them as manager Rudi Garcia stated: "Moussa will not be leaving this winter. He is an important player for us."

Celtic await a sell-on fee windfall after Dembele's move to the French top flight in summer 2018, with Odsonne Edouard moving permanently from PSG in the same window.

They will receive a 10 per cent cut of profits made on a future Lyon sale but that will now have to wait until the summer - which could be a good thing for the quadruple Treble winners if he rediscovers his goalscoring form.
