Moussa Dembele puts Lyon bench problems behind him as former Celtic star fires French side to Champions League semi-final

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele sent a warning to his manager after stepping off the bench to fire his side into the Champions League final.

The Frenchman was left on the bench for the second game in a row but it proved to be successful as he showed his class with a late winner for the Ligue 1 side.

Dembele grabbed a double as he took advantage of some poor defending on two occasions to put Manchester City to the sword in Portugal.

His first was a contentious one as it looked like he had fouled Aymeric Laporte in the build-up but VAR decided not to overturn the on field decision and the goal stood.

The second was more clear cut as he took full advantage of a huge goalkeeping blunder from Ederson when the Brazilian parried it into his path and he had a simple finish.

That goal came just seconds after Raheem Sterling had missed a glorious opportunity to equalise when he fired over the bar from less than six yards out.

It was two goals from Dembele and sets the French side up for a semi-final against Bayern Munich later in the week.

The night was all about the former Celtic striker though as he made a mockery of the decision to leave him out of the team with Rudi Garcia preferring to play Memphis Depay and Karl Toko Ekambi up front.

It was the second game in a row the French club did that, having done the same against Juventus in the last round.
