Moussa Dembele in Lyon frustration as Manchester United target is left in reserve for Champions League showdown

Lyon left Moussa Dembele out of their starting lineup for the second Champions League game in a row.

The former Celtic striker was benched once again as his side took on Manchester City in the Champions League quarter final in Germany.

The Club 2020 mini-tournament to finish the Champions League has been an exciting change to European football's premier competition.

And Dembele would have been hoping for the opportunity to show himself off on the biggest stage but Rudi Garcia decided to go with Memphis Depay and Karl Toko Ekambi as his front pair instead.

That meant the Manchester United target was left warming the bench - just as he was for the quarter final second leg win over Juventus.

On that night he was visibly frustrated during the pre-match warm-up as his side prepared for the game.

It was a similar note for him in Portugal, despite Pep Guardiola describing him as exceptional after coming up against him for Celtic in 2016.

At the time, the Man City boss said: “If you read the newspapers in the last six months, since I became a coach at Manchester City maybe I have had contact with 126 players.

“Dembele is another one. But the quality in Dembele is there. He is an exceptional player.”
