Four senior police officers on Koh Phangan have been transferred off the island for allowing a beach party to take place when the country was observing a mourning period for the late King Bhumibol.
Another lower-ranking officer at the same Koh Phangan station has also been axed.
Pol Lt Gen Sorasak Yenprem, the Provincial Police Region 8 commander, on Tuesday issued an order for the immediate transfer of deputy Phangan police chief Pol Lt Col Krairuek Ngamsri-on and three other officers from the same police station to the regional office in Surat Thani's Muang district.
The transfer orders came after Phangan police chief Pol Col Somchai Noppasri and Pol Lt Col Sorakit Klai-udom were ordered to work at the Surat Thani police head office in December.
They were found to have shown dereliction of duty by allowing Pol Sen Sgt Maj Chokdee Chan to throw a party for tourists on Yuan beach on the island on Oct 6. This fell during the mourning period for the late King, when cabinet had banned all entertainment activities across the country.
Soldiers raided the beach party and lodged a complaint with police on the island.
Surat Thani police commander Pol Maj Gen Apichart said on Tuesday that Pol Sen Sgt Maj Chokdee was later dismissed from the police force after an internal investigation found he had seriously violated police discipline.
