Mourning fans gather for Bertie Auld's funeral decked out in green and white

Mourners gathered at the birthplace of Celtic this morning to honour the life of one of the club's most famous sons.

Dozens of grieving fans headed to St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Glasgow's Calton area ahead of the funeral service for Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld.

Former Celtic managers David Hay and Neil Lennon, current gaffer Ange Postecoglu, and ex-Chief Executive Peter Lawwell were among those who arrived at the funeral to pay their respects.

Dozens of Auld's family and loved ones are also in attendance at the service, to say their final farewell to a club legend.

The 83-year-old, who won the European Cup in 1967 and 14 other trophies in his two spells with the club, passed away earlier this month.

Fans lined the streets outside the building, which played a pivotal role in the birth of the club.

Many supporters were decked out in green for the service, with some fans sporting hooped scarves and masks, and several allowed into the church to attend the service.

Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson and Board Member Andrew Dickson were also in attendance.

In 1887, Brother Walfrid and a group of men from the parish founded a charity to assist with the care of the poor, which went on to become Celtic Football Club in 1888.

And David Hay, who played with Auld during his second spell at the club, paid tribute to his former teammate.

He said: "He's a big loss to his family and a big loss to Celtic obviously."
