Mourinho makes Son Heung-min contract admission as young Tottenham star is tipped for the top

Here are your morning headlines for Monday, February 8

Son contract latest

Jose Mourinho is confident that Son Hung-min will commit to a new Tottenham contract but concedes the Covid-19 pandemic is delaying confirmation of the agreement.

Son has been "in talks" over a new deal since last year with reports towards the end of 2020 indicating it would be signed in the new year.

However, there has been no such announcement and although the 28-year-old is under contract until 2023, uncertainty over his future is starting to emerge.

Mourinho, though, has hinted the pandemic and the financial impact it has on the world, means announcing a multi-million pound contract for a sportsman wouldn't be the best PR.

Lucas excels

Jose Mourinho highlighted the impact Lucas Moura made as Tottenham ended a run of three straight defeat with a 2-0 win over West Brom in north London.

Lucas lined up in the Spurs starting XI for the first time since October 26, 2020 and delivered an impressive display with his selfless running and excellent dribble and pass to set up Son Heung-min for the decisive second goal.

Mourinho claims he new Lucas would make a big impression based on the attitude he showed on the touchline before he emerged as a second-half substitute in the previous fixture against Chelsea.

Parrot praised

Ipswich manager Paul Lambert believes Tottenham will have a serious player on their hands if striker Troy Parrott continues to develop at the rate he's shown so far.

Parrott is on loan until the end of the season at Portman Road having spent the first half of 2020/21 with Championship side Millwall and played 70 minutes in Saturday's 2-0 win over Blackpool.

Speaking after the game, Lambert hailed the performance of Parrott who delivered some classy touches, excellent movement and fine link-up play and work rate.

“Some of the football was good and Parrott did really well upfront,” Lambert told the club’s website. “He showed some excellent movement and footwork.

“If he progresses the way I think he will then Tottenham could have a very good player on their hands.”
