Mountains of rubbish pile up in parks and beaches after hottest week of the year

Merseyside's parks and green spaces were left littered with rubbish as people basked in scorching temperatures yesterday.

In shocking scenes repeated across the region, social media was filled with posts of fires being left burning, £1 BBQ stains on the grass, smashed glass, and overflowing bins.

These pictures were taken at Sefton Park this morning, but similar scenes could also be seen in New Brighton in Wirral, and at Crosby beach by the Iron Men statues.

People reacted with dismay to the scenes after they were posted on social media.

Marie Foster said: "Shocks me that after what we have and are still supposedly going through with lockdown that people still have a complete lack of respect for the world around them.

"Thought it may have been a wake up call for people seeing how beautiful places are when undisturbed but no. Back to selfish ways."

Claire Francis Rogers said: "And people wonder why our beaches are not like abroad - guess why 'cos people clean up after themselves."

Charlene James said: "I thought the police were supposed to be stepping up, and taking more control of this."

Angela Jones said: "Even some pubs are selling drink and people crowding round outside, it's making a joke out of lockdown."

Jean Duff said: "We used to take the kids for a picnic /barby but always took our rubbish home."
