Schedules are dwindling

The Pac-12 made it official that they are following in the footsteps of the Big Ten and are going with conference games only. This is a big blow to the Mountain West as the two conferences typically play a number of games and this year it means 13 games will be canceled.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes and all those connected to Pac-12 sports continues to be our number one priority,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “Our decisions have and will be guided by science and data, and based upon the trends and indicators over the past days, it has become clear that we need to provide ourselves with maximum flexibility to schedule, and to delay any movement to the next phase of return-to-play activities.”

These are the games that are impacted and it really hurts Hawaii the most as they had three Pac-12 games on its schedule and this is now four games cancelled as the game vs. Fordham was already cancelled.

UNLV was to get quality opponents like Arizona State to come to Allegiant Stadium but that game is no longer on the schedule.

Overall, there are seven home games lost and those likely would be sell-outs or close to it and it has to stink to be a fan to looking forward to being in the stands for this game.

  • Hawaii at Arizona
  • California at UNLV
  • Washington State at Utah State
  • UCLA at Hawaii
  • Colorado at Colorado State
  • Arizona State at UNLV
  • New Mexico at USC
  • Fresno State at Colorado
  • Colorado State at Oregon State
  • UCLA at San Diego State
  • Utah at Wyoming
  • Hawaii at Oregon
  • Utah State at Washington

All signs are pointing to each conference creating their own standards and playing against each other.  As always, things could change like maybe the Group of Five having universal standards and allow a 12-game schedule but that seems unlikely. Playing fewer games allows to spread the season out over the fall while playing eight or nine league games.
