The Mountain West conference’s most impactful incoming transfers taking the court this season.

Transfers can be the life blood of a program or it’s downfall and that really just depends on if they are coming in or out of your program. Many teams sitting atop the current Mountain West standings have utilized transfers and with major success. While some bring them in just to try and compete.

Our list of all traceable transfers that left the Mountain West with eligibility was released two weeks ago and many enjoyed catching up with familiar faces still playing college basketball across the country at many different levels. But to cover the topic completely here is a ranking of incoming transfers having the most impact on their new teams.

Things to note:

  • Players listed are graduate transfers, players given immediate eligibility through the acquisition of waivers, sit out transfers and players that came from the junior college ranks.
  • Players currently sitting out due to transfer rules were not listed.
  • The eligibility estimator is an estimated amount of seasons and games that player is expected to have left. The amount of games left in the current season could extend out depending on that team’s success in the postseason. Many factors could also cut a career short. Or that player could simply transfer out of the program at years end.
  • This list is for first year Mountain West players only, if someone transferred into the conference but played last year they aren’t listed below.

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Jonah Antonio, junior guard UNLV

Previous Stop: South Plains College (NJCAA Region 5)

Past Stats: 11.6 PPG 4.5 RPG 1.9 APG (18-19, 34 games/32 starts)

Current Stats: 9.5 PPG 4.3 RPG 1.1 APG in 16 games/12 starts

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 10 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Next up, the top ten:

10. Alphonso Anderson, junior forward Utah State

Previous Stop: North Idaho College (NJCAA Region 18/Northwest Athletic Conference)

Past Stats: 15.6 PPG 9.0 RPG 1.1 APG 1.1 SPG in 31 games

Current Stats: 9.5 PPG 4.3 RPG 1.1 APG in 23 games/4 starts

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Anderson has had a great first year in Logan for the Aggies after spending the previous season at North Idaho College as a first-team all-NWAC selection. Prior to his time with the Cardinals he spent the 2016-2017 season as a redshirt freshman at Montana in the Big Sky. His production has dipped as of late but was a key piece of Utah State’s non-conference run. Playing big minutes in the post during Neemias Queta’s absence alongside Justin Bean averaging 12.5 PPG and 5.4 RPG in that time.

9. KJ Feagin, Redshirt senior guard (GS) San Diego State

Previous Stop: Santa Clara (WCC)

Past Stats: 5.0 PPG 3.0 RPG 1.0 APG 1.5 SPG (18-19, 2 GMS/2 starts)

Current Stats: 8.0 PPG 3.2 RPG 3.2 APG in 22 games/22 starts

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 8 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Feagin was a scoring machine during his time at Santa Clara in the WCC, scoring over 1,172 points and averaging 14.5 PPG in his career as a Bronco. His role with the Aztecs hasn’t been as leading scorer but his presence in the their starting line up cannot be understated. He like a couple of other Aztec’s on this list are key reasons why San Diego State currently enjoys a top-ranking and undefeated season.

8. Zane Martin, Redshirt junior guard New Mexico

Previous Stop: Towson (Colonial Athletic Association)

Past Stats: 19.8 PPG 3.5 RPG 2.7 APG (17-18, 32 GMS/32 Starts)

Current Stats: 10.6 PPG 2.4 RPG 2.7 APG 1.2 SPG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Zane Martin came to New Mexico as a walking bucket from the Towson Tigers program. But the Philadelphia, PA native has seen ups and downs during his time in Albuquerque, especially after a very promising start. But with the absence of four of New Mexico’s top six scorers Martin like other’s has stepped up and attempted to help the team limp to the conference tournament anxiously awaiting the return of some teammates.

7. Abu Kigab, junior forward Boise State

Previous Stop: Oregon (PAC-12)

Past Stats: 2.6 PPG 2.7 RPG 1.8 SPG 0.09% from three

Current Stats: 13.7 PPG 4.0 RPG 41% from three

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Kigab has been just what the doctor ordered in Boise, as a credible scoring option alongside Derrick Alston Jr., Justinian Jessup and RJ Williams. The Broncos are only more dangerous with him on the court and after coming over from Oregon in the PAC-12 where he was seldom used, he is now a key part of Boise State’s rotation and scoring attack.

6. Elijah Mitrou-Long, Redshirt senior guard (GS) UNLV

Previous Stop: Texas (Big-12)

Past Stats: 5.6 PPG 2.2 RPG 1.6 APG (18-19, 36 GMS/ 9 Starts)

Current Stats: 12.4 PPG 3.9 RPG 3.7 APG 1.4 SPG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 10 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Mitrou-Long is well traveled, but is finding success in his third division-I stop after spending time at Mt. St. Mary’s in the NEC and most recently at Texas in the Big 12. He had a solid role with the Long Horns in 17.9 minutes a game but seemed a bit suffocated in the Texas backcourt depth chart. He’s found a role with the Runnin’ Rebels but missed eight weeks with a broken left thumb. He returned for UNLV’s Jan. 26th game at home against San Diego State.

5. Donnie Tillman, junior forward UNLV

Previous Stop: Utah (PAC-12)

Past Stats: 10.5 PPG 5.3 RPG 1.6 APG (18-19, 31 GMS/15 Starts)

Current Stats: 10.6 PPG 5.1 RPG 2.2 APG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 10 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Tillman along with other Rebels has helped bridge the gap in TJ Otzelberger’s first year in charge out in Las Vegas. He transferred into the program over the summer and received a hardship waiver to play immediately. Averaging double-figures for UNLV, Tillman has been a great addition to the frontcourt after several departures during the coaching change.

4. JaQuan Lyle, Redshirt Senior guard New Mexico

Previous Stop: Ohio State (Big Ten)

Past Stats: 11.4 PPG 3.2 RPG 4.6 APG 1.0 SPG (16-17, 31 GMS/23 Starts)

Current Stats: 17.1 PPG 4.1 RPG 4.9 APG 1.4 SPG 46%-FG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Lyle had the potential to be atop this list coming into the season with maybe the most hype of any listed at the beginning of the season. He’s had some highs for the Lobos including an undefeated record at home (until San Diego State) and leading the team in scoring while being second in assists as well as steals. But now an injury and an incident at a party hosted by Lyle has derailed the Lobo’s attempted bounce back and resulted in a suspension. We’ll have to watch this closely as he is expected to make a return to the court this season.

3. Yanni Wetzell, Redshirt senior forward (GS) San Diego State

Previous Stop: Vanderbilt (SEC)

Past Stats: 5.9 PPG 3.8 RPG 0.6 BPG (18-19, 32 GMS/10 Starts)

Current Stats: 12.0 PPG 6.4 RPG 1.6 APG 0.7 BPG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 8 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

San Diego State is Wetzell’s third stop since arriving in the states from Auckland, New Zealand after high school, but it seems like he’s found the right fit. After stops at St. Mary’s (TX) in NCAA’s division II ranks followed by a one year stop in the SEC with a struggling Vanderbilt in Bryce Drew’s last season at the helm in Nashville, Wetzell made his way west. He’s been a force down low for the Aztecs who have had some depth issues in the post this season with injuries and health issues alike, it’s hard to imagine where this team would be without him given those setbacks.

2. Jalen Harris, Redshirt junior guard Nevada

Previous Stop: Louisiana Tech (C-USA)

Past Stats: 15.3 PPG 4.4 RPG 2.4 APG 1.1 SPG (17-18, 11 GMS/11 Starts)

Current Stats: 19.5 PPG 6.1 RPG 4.2 APG 1.1 SPG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 year and 9 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game)

Harris has been an absolute force for the Wolf Pack this season and a big reason why Steve Alford’s team is playing competitively in conference this season. Nevada is in a now four-way tie for third place this season and Harris who is bound for a first-team all-MWC finish is still leading a very young and shallow team. He leads the Wolf Pack in scoring and is in a back and forth race with Lindsey Drew to lead them in assists and rebounds as well. Harris has been an extremely bright spot for Nevada fans this season, can’t wait to see what he does next season when the show is his alone.

1. Malachi Flynn, Redshirt junior guard, San Diego State

Previous Stop: Washington State (PAC-12)

Past Stats: 15.8 PPG 4.3 APG 3.4 RPG 1.6 SPG (17-18, 31 GMS/30 Starts)

Current Stats: 16.5 PPG 4.9 APG 3.6 RPG 1.7 SPG

How long do you have them for? (Eligibility estimator): 1 Season and 8 games (19-20 season games remaining with 1 guaranteed conference tournament game) *But predicted as a second round draft pick by several mock drafts.

Flynn’s presence on the court for San Diego State is pretty obvious, he and others mentioned on this list have been the differences makers on an Aztec team that lost their top two scorers from last years squad.

His game has translated beautifully from the Pac-12 to Mountain West, from a bottom dwelling Washington State squad to a well you know how high they’re ranked Aztec squad. Flynn is the only Mountain West player listed on any mock drafts, but his future with the San Diego State will ultimately depend on the teams finish at the end of the year.
