Mountain rescue team saved man attempting to climb Sugar Loaf Mountain on a mobility scooter

A man had to be saved by mountain rescuers after he fell from his mobility scooter as he tried to scale a mountain.

Longtown Mountain Rescue were called to assist the man, said to be in his 40s, on Sugar Loaf Mountain, Monmouthshire, on Tuesday.

He had been struggling to make it to the summit in a mobility scooter but had fallen and sustained an injury.

Volunteers brought the man and his scooter down from the peak and he was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

Sugar Loaf Mountain, near Abergavenny, is a popular destination with hikers.
