Mountain rescue drama as skier injured in horror off-piste fall at Glenshee

A skier has been rescued after being badly injured in a horror ‘backcountry’ fall in the Cairngorms.

The victim was skiing off-piste and suffered a chest injury after wiping out at Glenshee on Sunday afternoon, January 24.

Tayside Mountain Rescue launched a ‘full team’ call out to the area to recover the skier.

The casualty was taken to hospital by the R199 rescue helicopter (Tayside MRT)

They were helped by a worker at the Glenshee Ski Centre and a local gamekeeper.

A spokesman for the Mountain Rescue team said: “Full Team Call Out to Glenshee this afternoon, for a “back country” skier with a chest injury.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Thanks to Dave at Glenshee Ski Centre, and to Liam, the local gamekeeper, for their help.

“As ever, thanks also go to R199 for their continued support.”

“Tayside Mountain Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers who live in the operational area.

“A wide variety of professions can be found in the Team. All are skilled and experienced mountaineers.

“Team Members are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to help anyone who is in trouble in the mountains.”
