Mountain rescue and underwater search teams still searching for missing mum

Divers, mountain rescuers and police dogs have all joined the search for missing mum Lindsay Birbeck - a week after her disappearance.

Emergency crews are continuing their hunt for the mum-of-two, 47, who was last seen in the Accrington area of Lancashire last Monday afternoon (August 12).

Detectives now say that a dog walker - seen in the area at the time of her disappearance - may be able to help them with their enquiries, LancsLive reports.

Specialist resources including dogs, police and mountain rescue, as well as underwater search teams have been out looking for Lindsay for the last seven days.

CCTV footage showed Lindsay, from Huncoat, in the Burnley Road area walking in the direction of Accrington at around 4.10pm.

From there it is thought she walked to Peel Park Avenue and into a wooded area, known as The Coppice.

Police have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries, examining CCTV and handing out leaflets - however there is still no trace of Lindsay.

Detective Chief Inspector Allen Davies, of Lancashire Police, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“It is exactly a week now since Lindsay went missing and as time goes on we are clearly growing increasingly concerned for her welfare and Lindsay’s family are obviously very worried about her as her disappearance is very out of character,” he said.

“We have a large number of specialist police resources and partners assisting in our efforts to find Lindsay and I would encourage anyone who has seen her, or knows where she might be, to contact police immediately.”

Speaking to LancsLive , Det Chief Insp Davies added: “The Coppice is an area familiar to Lindsay.

"There's also a suggestion that she may have made her way towards that area so we have done some significant searches in the area of The Coppice.

“The information we have had is that Lindsay has potentially made her way down Peel Park Avenue, the base of that runs towards The Coppice.

“We think around 4.30pm she may have been around that area.

“We do know there's a dog walker walking a dog around that time frame and what I would appeal for is that the dog walker makes contact with us so we can speak to them and maybe get some more information that will help locate her.”

Officers currently supporting Lindsay's family have made a direct appeal for the Burnley primary school teacher to make contact with police.

There is no evidence that Lindsay has been the victim of 'any criminal act', police say.

Officers are keen to speak to a dog walker who is believed to have been on Peel Park Avenue between 4pm and 5pm on the day of Lindsay’s disappearance and may have seen her.

He is described as a white man, aged in his late 40s, around 5ft 6in tall, of medium build with short dark hair and wearing glasses.

He is believed to have been wearing a dark jacket or coat and was walking a small black Labrador.

Anyone with information about Lindsay’s whereabouts should call police on 101, quoting log 0016 of August 13. For immediate sightings please call 999.
