Mountain climber airlifted from Munro after falling 50ft

A MOUNTAIN climber has been airlifted to hospital after falling 50ft while hiking a Munro.

The Skye Mountain Rescue Team was called to the scene on Tuesday after they received reports of a man falling about 15m off the north-west ridge of Sgùrr nan Eag.

Due to the low cloud, a Coastguard helicopter was initially unable to reach the scene.

The climber was treated for multiple injuries before being placed on a stretcher and carried to the lochan at Coire Ghrunnda, with the help of the Kintail Mountain Rescue team.

After most of the cloud lifted, the helicopter was able to return and the injured climber was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The Skye Mountain Rescue Team thanked all those involved with the rescue and wished the climber a "full and speedy recovery".

The team said that it had been called out to nearly 20 incidents just this month.
