Mountain bikers rushed to hospital from Scots park trails twice within three days

Two seriously injured mountain bikers have been rushed to hospital from Innerleithen within three days of each other.

Both incidents happened on the downhill mountain bike trails at Tweed Valley Forest Park which are regarded as some of the best in the UK.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (TVMRT) were called to evacuate the first individual at around 10.15am on Saturday June 18.

The casualty was transferred from the trails to the ambulance waiting for them at 11.45am and taken to hospital for treatment.

Then, on Tuesday June 21, TVMRT were called back to Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders at 1.32pm for their 26th callout of the year.

Yet another seriously injured mountain biker was evacuated to an ambulance at 2.45pm before team members stood down.

Elsewhere, TVMRT were called to help a mountain biker with chest and side injuries in the Walkerburn area on Saturday, June 18.

They also transferred a gravel bike to a waiting ambulance travelling between Edinburgh and Manchester on Tuesday, June 21.

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
