Mount Vernon Avenue crash: Road closed after serious RTC as police lockdown street

Mount Vernon Avenue has tonight been locked down by police after a serious crash.

Police say the key road in the east end of Glasgow is currently closed in both directions as emergency services respond to the incident.

It is not yet known the nature of the crash or how many vehicles have been involved, however Glasgow Live have contacted Police Scotland for further comment.

Traffic diversions are currently in place.

A post shared on the Greater Glasgow Police Division Facebook page at 4.40pm this afternoon confirmed: "Due to a serious road traffic collision, Mount Vernon Avenue in Glasgow is currently closed to traffic in both directions whilst investigations are ongoing.

"Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and find an alternative route if impacted by this closure.

"We appreciate your assistance and patience in this matter."

UPDATE: A Police Scotland spokesperson has since confirmed: "Around 2.35pm on Wednesday, 19 May, officers were called to a report of a road crash involving two vehicles on Mount Vernon Avenue. Officers are at the scene and the road is currently closed."
