Mount Snowdon tragedy as person plunges nearly 100ft to death on notorious ridge

A person has died after plunging down a notorious ridge on Mount Snowdon.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) were called to the scene shortly before 8pm on Saturday, July 24, as the casualty was found unconscious and not breathing.

The North Wales Police drone unit was summoned to help locate them, North Wales Live reports.

Team members discovered the person had fallen “25 to 30 metres” on the lower slopes of Crib Goch’s north ridge, the scene of numerous tragedies over the years.

A Coastguard rescue helicopter collected the casualty from the top of Dinas Mot crags before flying to hospital.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased casualty,” said a spokesperson for Llanberis MRT.

Last week the team of volunteers retrieved another Crib Goch casualty, a 74-year-old man who had fallen “five to six metres”, injuring his arm and head.

He was treated for his injuries before being evacuated by Coastguard helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

Earlier, Dinas Mot was itself the scene of a rescue when two climbers became stuck on its crags. The pair were airlifted to Nant Peris.
