Snowdon tragedy as person falls nearly 100ft to their death

A person has died after plunging from a notorious ridge on Snowdon in North Wales.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) were called to the scene shortly before 8pm on Saturday, July 24.

The North Wales Police drone unit was summoned to help locate the casualty, reports North Wales Live.

The person was reported unconscious and not breathing, and were airlifted to hospital.

The casualty was then pronounced dead on arrival.

Team members discovered they had fallen '25 to 30 metres' - almost 100ft - on the lower slopes of Crib Goch’s north ridge, which has seen numerous tragedies over the years.

A Coastguard Rescue helicopter collected the person from the top of Dinas Mot crags before flying to hospital.

A spokesperson for Llanberis MRT said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased casualty."

The tragedy comes after the team of volunteers retrieved another Crib Goch casualty last week - a 74-year-old man who had fallen 'five to six metres', injuring his arm and head.

He was treated for his injuries before being evacuated by Coastguard helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.
